Music Class

Although the marching band members were exposed to reading music, there was still a void for 'real' formal music training. This actually came about interestingly with the invitation of Rev. Frank Smalling to speak at the club's Religious Programme one evening. He liked what he saw and offered to teach piano and music theory. Although several members showed up for the first few classes, only four boys ended up in the class. They were taught classical piano and music theory up to grade 8 in the Associate Board of the Music Examination. All four boys were successful. However, this programme ended when Mr. Smalling left and the boys moved on. This left a void in formal music at the club until Mr. Ralston 'Stamma' Haughton started a music class where he taught Rhythm and some theory. In 1980, Carl 'Slouchy' Mathews a clubbite and member of the band was encouraged by Mr. 'Pop' Lawrence to teach a few members of the band how to read music. This led to the introduction of the Association Board of the Royal Schools of Music Exam being done with great success. At present Mr. 'Slouchy' Mathews is teaching formal music to boys and girls on Thursday evenings. There is also one (1) candidate for the Caribbean Secondary examinations Council for music in June 2006.

Computer Class

The first class started with a teacher, Mr. Murce Smith. Then one O.B. member Mrs. Maxine Mathews took over the class. The class programme included touch typing, writing letters, making postcards and birthday cards.
With the assistance of Peace Boat and Sunholiday Travel & Tours Ltd., the club now has ADSL internet connection, which has allowed the class programme to expand to a next level. The class is now being operated every Saturday afternoon by a Peace Boat volunteer staff, Ms. Kumiko Terai.
