December 19, 2009 The biggest event, and the last event of the year, Christmas Dinner & Prize Giving Night took place on Saturday evening December 19th. The main sponsors of the event, Trevor Willo・Wilson and Keith Young were back in Jamaica to organize the evening and so as many other familiar faces. We were once again welcomed by the rain which forced us to celebrate inside the club. But with good food, good music, and many prize givings, the night was wonderful and everybody enjoyed the last event of the 2009. Brandon Daley received under 12 Boy of the year 2009, Shanique Malcolm received Teen Girl of the Year 2009, and Ricardo Heath received Teen Boy of the Year 2009. Unfortunately there was no candidate for under 12 Girl of the Year 2009.

February 12, 2009 On February 12th, Mr. Earle celebrated his 70th birthday. We (members of the club) wanted to make it special so we planned and executed a surprise birthday party. On the night, we lured Mr. Earle to the band stand to 途esolve・an issue with a class I was teaching while the club house was rearranged to set up a table complete with a cake for the celebrated man of the hour. After the issue was "taken care of", he returned to the club house where it was dark. When he asked what was wrong with the lights, he was greeted by a chorus of happy birthday sung by all the members of the club followed by the musical stylings of David 'Sleepy' Cunningham and Patrick 'Abba' Clarke. It was good to see Mr. Earle so genuinely surprised that he even shed a few tears (of joy for sure). May your days be long and fruitful, and may you live to see and enjoy many more birthdays Mr. Earle. Salud!!! (by M. Smith) Click here to watch video of surprise birthday... |

January 17-27, 2009 5 representatives from the club and 3 members from Flankers Peace & Justice Centre visited UK as guests of Bishop Auckland Theatre Hooligans (BATH) in Durham from January 17-27, 2009. Andre Mowatt, Renece Smith, Glenroy Williams, and Collin Farquharson lead by Ms. Kumiko Terai (Peace Boat volunteer) were the five lucky ones from Montego Bay Boys & Girls Club to gain so many precious experiences while they were in UK. Every morning started at King James I Community Art College where all the Jamaicans went to different form classes to answer questions about Jamaica. Prior to this trip, our members practiced Jamaican dance which they performed numerous times to the students of King James I Community Art College, as well as to the students of Framwellgate Moor Primary and Cockton Hill Primary. The main event of this trip must have been the Launch of the "Jamaic-A-Difference" where B.A.T.H. showcased their works and documentary videos that were filmed during their visit to Jamaica in July and October 2008. Andre Mowatt represented the Jamaican group and delivered a speech on the impact this whole experience has had on him. High Commissioner to UK, Mr. Burchell Whiteman also visited the exhibition the following day. Our members were thrilled to have met him and were honoured to get advises from him which inspired them in many ways. This cultural exchange trip included visit to Durham County Cricket Club, Darlington Football Club, Durham Town Hall, Durham Cathedral, and a lot of unique activities that we are not familiar with in Jamaica such as bowling, trampoline, and Ceilidh (a traditional Gaelic social dance originating in Ireland and Scotland). . The club would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Stephen Elliott (founder of B.A.T.H.) and all the B.A.T.H. members who worked so hard to raise funds to bring our members to UK, and to Mr. A.S. Rodchester (Head Teacher of King James I Community Arts College), all the students and staff at King James I Community Arts College, and all the host families for giving the members warm welcome. We hope our relationship will grow and continue making differences to the lives of many Jamaicans. |

December 30, 2008 It was back in July 2005 when Peace Boat and Sunholiday Travel & Tours Ltd. got together and formed a Joint Project to help our club. Their mission was to 1) Establish ADSL internet connection, 2) Create website for the club, 3) Extend the main building to setup computer rooms for IT education. Yes, they have kept their promise and mission accomplished. "It was a long rough road." says Ms. Kumiko, Peace Boat volunteer. "But it was worth the effort. I would like to thank all the club members who supported this project. And also my respect to Pop and Mr. Earle who have always been there 100% supporting this project." The project made possible for many club members to learn computer skills, and study in a much better environment. On behalf of the club, we would like to thank Peace Boat and Sunholiday Travel & Tours Ltd. for their contribution to the club. |

December 19, 2008 Christmas Dinner and Prize Giving Ceremony was held on Friday December 19th at the club. Despite of the bad weather which forced us to change the venue to inside of the club, the whole evening was well put together and everybody enjoyed the night. We had a special guest, our late great leader Pop's wife was present and added warmth to the event. She was also the presenter for the grand finale winners. Club members who received trophies (sponsored by Trevor 'Willo' Wilson and Keith Young) were all excited and proud. Another year has ended. The club is still standing strong and we wish 2009 will be another happy and prosperous year for all the clubbites and families.

August 8-18, 2008 Cayman 2008 was a very thrilling experience as it was the first time going overseas for all of the members; it was also a very successful trip as we accomplished all that we had set out to do. The trip was planned to accompany forty-five band members and five senior/past members as chaperones, however some of the band members did not receive their passport in time and sadly had to miss the trip. The trip was for ten days from August 8-18. During our visit we attended seven churches in which we played before or after and during the service. On the 13th the band performed in front of the Cayman port where there were 4 cruise ships docked, the band performing caught most if not all of the tourists eyes and ears they all came and listened to our melodious music and our precise steps, Afterwards the band marched around Georges Town where we stopped and performed at a monumental fountain. The following Saturday the band played a football match against a team mainly build up of players aging from 19-29 yrs. The club won the game 3 goals to 1 thanks to goals from Nikoy Wallace (Trumpet) with the equalizer, Sheldon Lyle (Drummer) with leader and Fabian Gifford (Drum Major) with the icing. The band was the main event wherever we went and the Caymanians loved us. We the members of the marching Band would like to say thanks to the club in general and to all who helped to acquire funds for funding this trip. (by F. Gifford) >>see photos of Grand Cayman trip |

April 29, 2008 If you visited the club last year, you must have seen those wooden lockers with the doors wide open. Why open? ... Because termites have eaten all the goodies in the wood and made it impossible to fix the door hinge for it to hold the door closed. But with the help of Tank-Weld Metals, the club has a strong, long-lasting locker now! Thanks to our sponsor Tank-Weld Metals for providing all the materials for the new locker. Steel work was done by "Second" assisted by clubbites. With club's signature colour, black & white with checker design, our new steel-metal locker is looking strong, and will be used for decades to come. >>see photos of "before and after" |

April 5, 2008 Motivation can go a far way... The idea had struck Mr. Earle for sometime now, and it is now on the road. The Marching Band Member of the Month Award is awarded to a member each month to the most well behaved band member during and off parade. The selection is made by Mr. Earle with the help of the officers in the marching band. The awardee receives a certificate along with cash total of J$1,000, sponsored by the board members. The first to receive this award (February 2008) was Garnett Grigg. This will go on every month and at the end of the year, The Marching Band Member of the Year will be chosen. >>see photos of The Marching Band Members of The Month |

April, 2008 Club Members now have IDs! After all these years, the children can identify themselves as a member of the Montego Bay Boys & Girls Club. There were times when the club members were stopped by the police on their way home, and questioned what they were doing on the road late at night. Now they have something to prove who they are. Great job to computer class students who have designed and made those IDs. They really are looking great! IDs also available for senior Members of Montego Bay Boys & Girls Club. Please contact us for details.(**Registration fee applies) |

April 5, 2008 The club is planning a trip to The Cayman Islands in August and we need sponsorship! Our aim is to raise enough money for 35 current members to go on this trip which is approximately total amount of J$875,000 (@J$25,000 x 35 members). We have raised J$9,000 so far from "Grand Fish Fry", and are scheduled to have more fund-raising events such as "March-a-thon", and "Labour Day Fun Day & Concert". The Marching Band used to travel abroad in the 70's and '80s and for those old boys and girls who traveled during that time know how much difference those trips made in their lives. This trip will inspire this generation of clubbites and will enlighten their lives by giving exposure to a different environment and experiences. The club would like to give them this trip as an incentive for their hard work, since they are the main source for the club to carry on. We do appreciate any support possible. We accept almost any kind of payment including online payment. Just give us a call or send us an email for any further inquiries you may have. Contact by phone: (876) 952-5857 (*** ask for Mr. Earle) Contact by email: contact@mbbgc.org Thank you!!! |

March 24, 2008 Yes, it's Easter! And "Easter Trip", the long standing tradition still goes on! The club members went to The Dunn's River Falls on Easter Monday and had a great time soaking themselves in a pure cold water. Back in the 70s, the club members usually spent the day at the Puerto Seco Beach as this beach was the hip spot in those days on an Easter Day. But after a long spell, members decided that it was time for a change. In 1998 another location was drafted and the new destination was "The Dunn's River Falls". >>see photos of Easter Trip 2008 |

Jan 1, 2008 Thanks to all who has been supporting the club over the years. In April 2006, Website Team has created "Support The Club" page. We have had some request and we think it is our duty that we report all donation made or reported to Website Team clear to public. The report will reflect donations collected from January 1, 2007, and only reflects donations made to and/or reported through Website Team. We should have done this from the beginning. But hey! Better late than never...! We look forward for your continuous support for 2008!!! *** You can also view the report on "Support The Club" page at anytime. |

Nov 10, 2007 National Marching Band Competition was held at Buckfield Playing Ground in Ocho Rios. It was a part of 添outh Month 2007・organized by Ministry of Information Culture Youth & Sports, in an effort to promote diversity and alternative methods of engaging young people in positive activities. Our marching band gave an excellent performance on the 1st round. The performance was very solid and tight, with energy, high skills and creativity. The crowd responded the most and there was no doubt that our marching band was the best on the 1st round performance. On the Semi-Final round, although not as responsive as the 1st round, our marching band performed well with some creativity. However, the way the performance ended raised some judges・eyebrows. 的nstrument is a part of you. You must handle it with love and care.・br> These are the words instructors (who happened to be the judges for the competition) were emphasizing at the workshops which took place earlier that day, on how we should care our instruments. Unfortunately, throwing away the drum sticks on the ground as a part of the performance was not a good idea after all. Well lesson learned!! We all believe that our marching band will deliver a great performance next year!!! As for the result, Tivoli Garden Marching Band from Kingston won the competition whose performance was full of energy and creativity throughout the whole competition. 2nd place was Rising Star Marching Band from St. Thomas, and Farm Heights Marching Band from Montego Bay placed 3rd.

November 7, 2007 It has been almost 2 years since our official website, www.mbbgc.org was launched back in December 2005. Thanks to Peace Boat, Sunholiday, and Mr&Ms Records for putting our history together on a website which made possible for all the people around the world to know about Montego Bay Boys & Girls Club. National Hero's Day, October 15 2007 Twelve Jamaicans who have contributed to sport, its development and administration in the country, were among the almost 200 persons who received National Honours and Awards from Governor General Professor Kenneth Hall at the annual Heroes' Day ceremony held at the National Indoor Sports Centre. Leading the group was world-renowned cricket umpire Steve Bucknor, who is on the International Cricket Council's (ICC) panel of elite umpires and stood in a record fifth ICC Cricket World Cup final in April. Bucknor received the Order of Jamaica, the fourth highest order for outstanding service in the field of sports. The 61-year-old was a FIFA football referee for nearly 20 years before turning to cricket in 1992. "It is good to be recognised by a country in the work that I do and whether or not I deserve it, the recognition is always good and it's exciting and I'm very, very happy," Bucknor told the Observer shortly after yesterday's function which was shifted from its usual venue at King's House because of heavy rains which have affected the island recently. top photo: Governor General Professor Kenneth Hall (left) presents Steve Bucknor, ICC elite umpire with his award, Order of Jamaica, at National Honours and Awards Ceremony at the National Indoor Sports Centre. bottom photo: The seven recipients of the Order of Jamaica take time out to seal the moment together after the National Honours and Awards Ceremony at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston. - January 2, 2007 - In July 2005, Peace Boat and Sunholiday Travel & Tours Ltd. got together and formed a Joint Project by organizing a Charity Reggae Event "Sun Bash" to raise funds for the community of Montego Bay. Who got the first opportunity!? Well, Montego Bay Boys & Girls Club was the first fortunate one to be chosen to receive this benefit. After having 3 Charity Reggae Events performed by Montego Bay's finest artistes like E.T.Webster, Djani, Audley Scott, and T. FRENZ, the fund reached J$1,000,000 which enabled to start the Project with 3 objectives for the club. 1) Establish ADSL internet connection 2) Create website for the club 3) Build extension and set-up computer rooms for IT education In September 2005, ADSL internet connection was setup, and website was launched in December 2005. The project is now in the 3rd phase which is to build extension to setup computer rooms. Construction is going well so far. A lot of work to be done still but we know we will complete it one day, and that day will be pretty soon too… >>see photos of construction site |

December 21, 2006 O'Donnell family, the grandchildren of Papa & Branka Pavlovic visited Jamaica and the main purpose of their visit was to fulfill the wishes of their grandparents of one day returning to Jamaica they loved so much. It was to organize a private ceremony in Papa & Branka's honour, and rest their ashes in the waters of Jamaica. During their stay, they visited the club with some surprises. They brought nice reprinted pictures that were taken back in 1960’s. Jennifer (Papa's granddaughter) went downtown and walked in to a shop to get photos reprinted to a larger size for the club. The amazing thing was the man at the shop happened to be the cameraman who took those photos back in the 1960《. It was like Papa gave them a surprise too. The family also made a donation of CA$5,000. This will be used to fix 'PAPA' Music Hall which received a major damage from Hurricane Ivan in 2004. 'Papa' was one of the most influential directors the Club had. His spirit is still alive today, and it will continue to live inside our soul. So Papa! Make sure you keep on watching us from "UP THERE"!!!

November 28, 2006 On the suggestion of His Worship the Mayor Councillor Noel Donaldson, the St. James Parish Council at its Regular Monthly Meeting held on November 9, 2006, approved of a donation of J$100,000 being granted to the Montego Bay Boys & Girls Club to assist with its activities. The Council recognizes that the organization has been in operation for many years and has impacted positively on numerous lives since its inception. Well, it is so nice not only to receive donation, but to be recognized for club's possitive impact on so many lives over the years! Nuff respect to Pop, Mr. Earle, and all the past directors!!! |

April 17, 2006 "By learning skills of the computer, you will also be contributing to enhance the club!" says Kumiko who is organizing this project. "You can choose whatever you want to learn, from 'Computer Basics' to 'Creating Website', and 100% of the fee (J$600/hr) will be contributed to the computer class. Some of the old boys have already participated and were able to purchase 1 LAN card for internet connection, and 1 headset which enables us to talk on the internet with people around the world for free! I hope more will participate so that we can have a better environment for the computer class." The class is available for old boys & girls of the club. |

Feb 24, 2006 Tomokatsu Onuki, a Japanese Volunteer worker from JOCV, visited the club on Friday afternoon to fix some of the computers that were giving problems.
